Cold Blue Water’s infusion of the blues, jazz and rock came to life at Mateel Summer Arts and Music Festival in Benbow, CA 2013 and that combination eventually became a collaboration between drummer Ty Dennis and Bassist, Steve Carvalho Everyone Orchestra featuring Steve Kimock, Dan Lebowitz, Sunshine Garcia.
“Da Doodle” injected life into the five-track production with its Allman Brothers-esque funk-infused jam.
California’s Cold Blue Water is led by the amazing ax man Andy Bs. Their self-produced five-song blues-jam-jazz-rock mash-up steered by Andy Bs’ wonderful electric blues leading, is a right-in-the-pocket masterstroke.
“Led Boots” has the help of the horns again, but this is a heavy-footed workout for Dennis, with moments from Andy Bs (once again), just totally unexpected plucks from Cummings and a real jazzy middle that features Dennis soloing under Keith McKelley’s tenor sax lead. Andy B’s takes it for a bit then the horns and band (with Dennis by now on fire) just take it home…wow!
This rocking jazz/blues mix album was recorded at the Greene Room Studios in Van Nuys, CA and I must say it’s a keeper.
The groove is addictive and you’ll want to listen to all the tracks from beginning to end. This one will be a favorite and one you’ll play often.
Andy Bs starts the set with plenty of fuzz and trickle tones thanks to his custom Gibson Les Paul. He skillfully adjusts his sound for each song and exhibits some B.B. King-style vibrato technique.
The band’s original “Blue Rain” features a catchy riff that Swislow and Bs duel and blend into a killer crescendo. Another original epic, “Wall of Decline,” starts with Bo Diddley beat from Dennis.
